UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
TO BE HELD AUGUST 21-23 IN KYIV
The Annual General Meeting of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) will be held August 21-23, 2011, at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Kyiv, Ukraine. UWC chose the venue primarily to demonstrate its solidarity with the Academy’s effort to stop the curtailment of the democratic foundations of education and to prevent the Sovietization of this institute of higher learning in Ukraine. Approximately 130 delegates and guests from 26 countries are expected to participate in this year’s meeting.
During the three-day gathering representatives of Ukrainians around the world will report on their achievements during the past year and outline their plans for the year ahead. The agenda will also include discussion of various constitutional issues and participants will hear reports as presented by the Executive Committee, Council and Committee chairs, representatives of national Ukrainian coordinating bodies, international and national UWC member organizations.
UWC has also selected several topics of significance to the Ukrainian community which will be addressed during three separate round table discussions: August 22 – “The challenges of adhering to and protecting human rights and freedoms of Ukrainians” and “Ways of strengthening cooperation and the coordination of the activities of UWC member organizations”; August 23 – “The State program for cooperation with Ukrainians outside Ukraine for the period through 2015 and opportunities to obtain financial support from non-governmental organizations.”
In conjunction with the UWC AGM, a conference organized by the UWC Human and Civil Rights Committee is scheduled for August 20, and the UWC World Council of Ukrainian Cooperatives will meet on August 21. A forum for Ukrainian youth of the diaspora, “Kyiv-2011”, co-organized by the UWC youth committee, the Conference of Ukrainian Youth Organizations, will be held August 22-30 in the Kyiv Municipal Teacher’s Building.
