The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) urges G7 to seize Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine. Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated in the 50th G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy and was offered a $50B loan backed by Russian frozen assets. The UWC has been urging the leaders of the G7 nations to intensify sanctions on Russia and seize frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
“This was missed opportunity for the G7 to demonstrate bold leadership in ensuring Ukraine’s victory and Russia’s defeat,” stated UWC President Paul Grod. “Providing a loan is a half-hearted measure, which Russia will view as weakness by the top global economies and supporters of Ukraine. The G7 must make Russia pay for its war crimes.”
The UWC calls on the G7 to increase its support for Ukraine, aiding the country and the democratic world in ending Russia’s war through a Ukrainian victory and the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Ending this war on the terms of the democratic international community, which adheres to the UN Charter and strives for sustainable development, global stability, and wellbeing, would signal the triumph of the rules-based international order by restoring the primacy of justice and the rule of law on the international stage.
“We call on the G7 countries to increase sanction pressure on Moscow, particularly by implementing more restrictions against Russia’s oil, gas, and nuclear energy sectors. Putin’s criminal regime must be deprived of the funds needed to continue Russia’s aggression and war against Ukraine,” stated UWC President Paul Grod.
“We also call on them to draw up and implement the necessary legislation at the national and international level to create legally solid foundations for the transfer of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is widely acknowledged as a war of aggression. Holding it financially accountable would be both legally permissible and morally justified as an effective way to hold the Russian aggressor state accountable. Moscow must pay for its crimes against Ukraine and the civilized world!” underscored Grod.
Ukraine’s victory is a pivotal goal for our generation and will be a joint victory for the Free World, guaranteeing long-term global stability.
