The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the US Senate’s decision and calls upon the US House of Representatives to approve the long-awaited $95 billion aid package to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan which includes $60 billion earmarked for Ukraine.
“After months of political wrangling, the U.S. Senate has sent a clear message to the international community that the United States will continue defending freedom and democracy against authoritarian and terrorist regimes that seek to plunge the world into chaos, violence, and a new era of imperialism,” stated UWC President Paul Grod. “We thank the U.S. Senate and the American people for standing strong with the people of Ukraine as they defend their homeland against Russia’s war machine. The powerful Ukrainian American community together with the friends of Ukraine have delivered continued and persistent advocacy for Ukraine’s freedom, sovereignty, and independence, for which we are deeply grateful.”
On February 13, 2024, the aid bill was supported by 70 Senators from both parties. Now, the bill must be approved by the House of Representatives prior to going to President Joe Biden for his signature and implementation.
“The UWC calls on the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, to vote on the bill to aid America’s allies immediately. We’re also counting on continued bipartisan support for Ukraine in the U.S. Congress. This is more than just America’s investment in a safer world, it is also support for the US economy and the welfare of its citizens. Today, more than ever, the world needs wise and decisive American leadership!” said President Grod.
