APPEAL
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) calls for Ukrainians in the diaspora to join the people of Ukraine in calling for the release of all Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar political prisoners illegally detained by the Russian Federation.
On 1-2 June 2018 Ukrainians worldwide will join forces in defence of filmmaker Oleh Sentsov who has joined other political prisoners in announcing a hunger strike.
Throughout Ukraine protest actions are being held at consular representations of the Russian Federation demanding the release of all political prisoners and hostages, and in support of the appeal of Ukraine’s Parliament of 1 March 2018 to all foreign governments, calling for a condemnation of the actions and the strengthening of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Currently, there are more than 60 Ukrainians, including Crimean Tatars, illegally detained in the Russian Federation and Crimea on unsubstantiated and politically motivated charges. 100 hostages are being held on the territory of the Donbas by the Russian Federation, suffering torture and humiliation at the hands of the occupying forces.
The international community must lend its voice to this campaign and increase pressure on the Russian Federation to release the political prisoners. As the Russian Federation prepares to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup, we must ensure that the true face of the Russian Federation, including its military actions against sovereign countries and blatant abuses of human rights, is not masked.
Join actions in your community! Show the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar political prisoners that they are not alone!
