UWC Commemorates Ukraine’s Constitution Day

UWC Calls Upon the World to Unite to Defend Ukraine’s Sovereignty and Independence

Article 1. Ukraine shall be a sovereign and independent, democratic, social, law-based state.

Today the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) joins Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine all around the world in commemorating Ukraine’s Constitution Day.

Ukrainians have strong democratic traditions going back to the 17th century with over 300 years of Constitutional tradition. The Ukrainian Constitution of 1710 is among the first adopted in the world.

The modern Ukrainian Constitution, adopted in 1996, became the first globally-recognized fundamental law of Ukraine.  It is based on the best examples of international and Ukrainian nation building experiences. It serves as a foundation for the nation’s democratic pro-Western course and values, defining the irreversibility of the European and Euro-Atlantic trajectory for Ukraine.

“Today, the brave men and women of Ukraine are defending their country from Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine because they chose democracy, Euro-Atlantic integration and rejected the Kremlin’s slavery and tyranny,” stated Paul Grod, UWC President.

“Ukraine’s Constitution is the keystone of Ukraine’s democracy. On this day, we call upon Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine to provide maximum military and economic support for Ukraine and impose punishing sanctions on Russia in order to end this war by the winter. Ukrainians deserve a better future in the European family of nations. A democratic independent Ukraine will strengthen global security and the rules based international order,” Mr Grod added.
