The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) urges a tougher response by the international community to the most recent escalation of military aggression by Russian Federation-backed forces in Eastern Ukraine including the attack on 18 December 2017 on the village of Novoluhansk.

The shelling of the populated residential area resulted in eight civilian injuries, including a 6-year-old girl, and extensive damage to the local infrastructure.

Highlighting on 19 December 2017 the deterioration of the security situation in Eastern Ukraine, Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine Ertugrul Apakan noted that ceasefire violations were reaching levels not recorded since February 2017.

“The Ukrainian World Congress condemns the continuing violations of the Minsk agreements, particularly the barbaric targeting by Russian Federation-backed terrorist forces of innocent civilians, and urges the international community to actively protect the fundamental human rights of the residents in the conflict zone,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
