The Ukrainian World Congress encourages all Ukrainians in the diaspora and friends of Ukraine to participate in International Vyshyvanka Day by wearing Ukrainian embroidery (known in Ukrainian as a vyshyvanka) on 18 May 2017.
Embroidered clothing is an ancient symbol of Ukraine that has globally popularized the Ukrainian nation and its culture. Today it represents the unity of the millions-strong Ukrainian community while captivating friends of Ukraine in over 50 countries who show their solidarity with the Ukrainian people by annually participating in International Vyshyvanka Day.
“We call upon all friends of Ukraine to join Ukrainians worldwide in wearing a vyshyvanka on 18 May 2017 to celebrate the strength and resolve of the people of Ukraine,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
