UWC honors Chrystia Freeland with its highest award at UCC Triennial Congress

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) that is led by President Paul Grod took part in the XXVIII Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians, hosted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) in Toronto on Nov. 14-16. The event brought together community leaders, policymakers, and activists from across the country.

During a formal ceremony at the assembly, the UWC presented Chrystia Freeland with the organization’s highest honor — the St. Volodymyr Great Medal.

In his keynote address, Grod outlined the global mission of the most prominent organization that represents Ukrainians worldwide and highlighted the unified efforts of them in supporting Ukraine.

UWC delegates also contributed to two panel discussions: one on Ukraine’s reconstruction that featured Andriy Shevchenko, who heads the UWC Mission in Ukraine and another on the future of defense, with Andrew Potichnyj, Director of the Unite with Ukraine initiative.

The UWC leadership congratulates UCC President Alexandra Chyczij on her re-election.

“As a founding and key member of the Ukrainian World Congress, the UCC represents the Ukrainian Canadian community internationally with dignity, strength, and determination. We warmly congratulate the UCC on hosting such a major event, and we wish its President, Alexandra Chyczij, continued success in serving the Ukrainian cause,” Paul Grod said.

The St. Volodymyr the Great Medal recognizes individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to strengthening Ukrainian community life in the diaspora, advancing the mission of the UWC, and supporting the development of Ukraine and Ukrainian communities worldwide.

Freeland is a former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada and former Minister of Transport and International Trade. She currently serves as Canada’s Special Representative for Ukraine’s Reconstruction.
