UWC invites Ukrainian communities to commemorate Holodomor Remembrance Day on Nov. 22

The International Coordinating Committee for Holodomor Awareness and Recognition of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) has begun preparations for this year’s Holodomor Remembrance Day that is observed on Nov. 22.

Ukrainian communities are encouraged to mark the occasion under the theme, “We Remember the Holodomor. The Genocide Continues.”

An informational website offers downloadable posters and banners which you may edit, a section answering frequently asked questions about the Holodomor you may use in interviews, and a sample letter urging legislators for recognition of the famine as genocide against the Ukrainian people.

“November is the month when we commemorate the millions of innocent victims of the Holodomor and honor their memory in communities around the world,” said committee chair Olya Soroka.

She said that Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine echoes the same drive to erase Ukrainian identity that defined the 1932-1933 famine.

“As descendants of countless heroes who resisted subjugation, we have a solemn obligation to remember their sacrifices and to bear witness to the truth—so that no other nation ever suffers the atrocities of genocide. Our unity is our strength, and the world has seen it,” Soroka said.

The UWC hopes that Ukrainian communities will use these resources in ways that resonate locally and that ensure the memory of the Holodomor continues to inspire remembrance, unity, and advocacy around the globe.
