UWC President at Nordic Ukraine Advocacy Summit: Ukraine needs stronger support

Speaking at the opening of the Nordic Ukraine Advocacy Summit 2025 in Oslo, Ukrainian World Congress President Paul Grod called on Northern European allies to step up their support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s ongoing war.

Your support has been extraordinary. But extraordinary times demand even more,” Grod said.

He stressed that Ukraine needs stronger military aid, tougher sanctions on Russia, louder backing in NATO and the EU, and zero tolerance for Russian disinformation.

We need you to keep the pressure on. Until Ukraine is victorious, Russia is defeated, and Europe is safe,” he said.

Grod warned that the world can no longer return to “normal” relations with Moscow. It was exactly this kind of tolerance for Kremlin behavior, he said, that led to the current war.

Russia must be held accountable for the war crimes, for the stolen children, for the shattered cities, for the millions displaced. Justice is not optional. It is the foundation of peace and peace must be built on justice, not on compromise,” Grod said.

He also addressed Ukrainian communities across Northern Europe, encouraging them to unite and continue advocating for Ukraine.

Organize. mobilize, collaborate. Whether in Oslo, Helsinki, Stockholm, or Copenhagen, your voices matter. Your work matters. Your unity matters,” he said.

Grod thanked the Ukrainian Community in Norway, the Association of Ukrainians in Finland, the Nordic Ukraine Forum from Sweden, and other partners for organizing the summit.

Held in Oslo on 6–7 June, the event aimed to boost cooperation among Ukrainian organizations in Northern Europe, strengthen regional security ties with Ukraine, and advocate continued support from Nordic governments.

The summit also featured opening remarks by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Ukraine’s newly appointed Ambassador to Norway, Oleksiy Gavrysh. Speakers included lawmakers, government officials, security experts, and civil society representatives from both Ukraine and the Nordic countries.
