UWC President Eugene Czolij met with Acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov
On 24 March 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij met with the Acting President of Ukraine, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov. Also participating in the meeting were UWC Board members, Ukrainian Canadian Congress President Paul Grod and Treasurer Zenon Potichny.
The UWC President extended greetings to the Acting President and the new governing authorities of Ukraine on the victory of EuroMaidan and the hope that they will protect Ukraine from Russian occupation, and implement the necessary reforms and the continued modernization and Europeanization of Ukraine.
Discussions involved the internal crisis in Ukraine, the dissemination of factual information with respect to events in Ukraine, the invasion of Ukraine by Russian armed forces, the illegal referendum in Crimea and Sevastopol, the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, the acceleration of Ukraine’s membership in the EU, the stabilization of the difficult economic and financial situation in Ukraine and international monitoring missions during the May presidential elections, including a mission from the UWC.
Also discussed were avenues for strengthening cooperation between the UWC and Ukraine on these issues.
“The Ukrainian World Congress expresses its support for the new Ukrainian governing authorities and its commitment, with its member organizations, to continue to defend the interests of Ukraine,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
