UWC Secretary General Stefan Romaniw speaks about Holodomor awareness at Lviv Polytechnic

On 17 April 2018 in Lviv, Ukraine, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Secretary General and Chair of the UWC International Coordinating Committee for Holodomor Awareness and Recognition (ICC) Stefan Romaniw spoke on the topic of Holodomor awareness to students and faculty of Lviv Polytechnic National University. The event was organized on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor by long‑standing UWC partner, the International Institute for Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations (Institute) of Lviv Polytechnic together with the National Home “Prosvita”.

Stefan Romaniw presented the main activities of the UWC and the Ukrainian diaspora in its network aimed at revealing the truth of the Holodomor and paying tribute to the millions of victims. The Chair of the ICC shared information on UWC initiatives to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor and its cooperation with Ukraine in this regard, and focused attention on the main activity which remains furthering the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people on an international level as already accomplished by 17 countries.

During the event participants learned about a joint project of Lviv Polytechnic with the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre that involves students completing translations of interviews with descendants of survivors of the Holodomor.

In conjunction with the event, the Institute unveiled an exhibit in the main campus of Lviv Polytechnic titled “Ukraine remembers – the world acknowledges” featuring information on the work of the UWC in raising Holodomor awareness and thematic quotes by representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora.

During a separate meeting on this day with the leadership of Lviv Polytechnic, First Vice-Rector Prof. Volodymyr Pavlysh and Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations Prof. Oleh Matviykiv, Stefan Romaniw discussed continued cooperation with the UWC on the issue of Holodomor and expressed gratitude to Lviv Polytechnic, particularly the Institute led by Iryna Kluchkovska for supporting UWC initiatives.
