UWC, Ukrenergo sign updated Memorandum to support Ukraine’s energy resilience

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and Ukrenergo are continuing their cooperation to attract international assistance for rebuilding and strengthening Ukraine’s power system’s resilience. The updated Memorandum was signed by Vitalii Zaichenko, Chairman of the Management Board of NPC Ukrenergo, and Yarema Kovaliv, Director of the UWC Mission to Ukraine and Head of the Energize Ukraine initiative.

“We began active cooperation with the UWC in early 2023, just a few months after Russia launched large-scale strikes on Ukraine’s electricity transmission infrastructure. It’s important to note that our partners immediately stepped in, actively supporting us and consistently responding to our requests. We have received a wide range of assistance from UWC, including power equipment and specialized vehicles for our repair crews. Overall, this has amounted to substantial humanitarian aid from many countries with strong Ukrainian diaspora communities. We are deeply grateful to the UWC for its support so far and look forward to continued cooperation,” Zaichenko said.

For his part, Kovaliv emphasized that the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system is not only a matter of national security for Ukraine but for all of Europe.

“The global Ukrainian community, together with international partners, is already making a meaningful contribution to sustaining Ukraine’s energy system, and this partnership continues to grow. Our goal is to scale up this support and help ensure the rapid recovery of energy infrastructure amid ongoing challenges,” he said.

The new Memorandum is set for a five-year term. Like the previous agreement, it will cover a broad range of areas of cooperation, from supporting the restoration of Ukraine’s energy system after attacks to advancing inclusivity and the green transition of the energy sector in the post-war period.

Since 2023, through cooperation with the UWC, Ukrenergo has received high-voltage equipment, machinery, and other donor support totaling about USD 7.3 million.

“We thank Ukrainians around the world for their support during this difficult time. Together, we are unbreakable,” Ukrenergo said.
