UWC welcomes Borys Wrzesnewskyj to the Board of Directors as Representative of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress

TORONTO, Canada — The Ukrainian World Congres (UWC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Borys Wrzesnewskyj to the UWC Board of Directors, representing the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC). This appointment aims to further solidify the strategic bond between the global Ukrainian community and one of the world’s most influential diaspora organizations.

In his role, Borys Wrzesnewskyj will focus on mobilizing political, social, and financial resources to support Ukraine’s victory and national recovery. His primary responsibilities include:

  • Advocacy: Strengthening Ukraine’s representation within international institutions and before the governments of democratic nations.
  • Coordination: Aligning strategic initiatives between the UWC and UCC regarding humanitarian aid and community development.
  • Solidarity: Engaging partners and donors for programs that bolster civil society in Ukraine and support resilient Ukrainian communities worldwide.

Borys Wrzesnewskyj brings a wealth of experience in political leadership and entrepreneurship. A four-term Member of the Parliament of Canada, he chaired the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration. His life’s work is deeply intertwined with Ukraine’s sovereignty: from supporting the People’s Movement of Ukraine (Rukh) in the early 90s to playing a pivotal role in organizing the international election observer mission during the Orange Revolution. Borys was also a driving force behind the parliamentary recognition of the Holodomor as a genocide in Canada.

A third-generation Ukrainian-Canadian, Mr. Wrzesnewskyj balances his business ventures (Future Bakery, M-C Dairy) with dedicated philanthropy. His contributions to democracy and international solidarity have earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise (IV and V degrees), the UWC St. Volodymyr the Great Medal, and the UCC Shevchenko Medal.

“Borys Wrzesnewskyj’s expertise as a statesman and his lifelong dedication to the Ukrainian cause are invaluable assets to the UWC. His presence on the Board will enhance our collective ability to advocate for Ukraine on the global stage,” UWC President Paul God said.
