The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the European Parliament resolution of 4 February 2016 on the human rights situation in Crimea, in particular of the Crimean Tatars (Resolution) adopted on 4 February 2016, which reiterates the call to withdraw all Russian forces from Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.

The UWC fully supports the European Parliament, which in its Resolution: “Reiterates its strong commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders and to its free and sovereign choice to pursue a European path; recalls its severe condemnation of the illegal annexation by Russia of the Crimean peninsula and the commitment of the EU, its Member States and the international community to implement fully the policy of non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea.”

The UWC shares the call of the European Parliament for the Russian Federation to release individuals who were apprehended in Crimea for their peaceful protest against the occupation, including Oleh Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko, Ahtem Chiigoz, Mustafa Degermendzhi and Ali Asanov.

“The Ukrainian World Congress appeals to the international community to strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation should it not immediately withdraw all of its forces from Crimea and Eastern Ukraine in accordance with the Resolution of the European Parliament,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
