The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the Concluding Statement and Recommendations of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee (PAC) adopted during the Eighth Meeting of PAC held on 17-19 September 2018 in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk.
PAC reaffirmed its continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, once again condemning the aggressive and expansionist policies of the Russian Federation that destabilize security both in Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
The UWC welcomes the calls by PAC for the EU to appoint a special EU envoy for Eastern Europe and Crimea, and support the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission to the Donbas.
In the context of the development of relations between the EU and Ukraine, the UWC joins PAC in acknowledging the accomplishments to date in Ukrainian reforms in many spheres of activity that further Ukraine’s integration into the EU, and recognizing that fulfilling the terms of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is only the beginning of future EU-Ukraine relations.
The UWC also supports PAC in its backing of the draft law introduced by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on amending the Constitution to reflect Ukraine’s strategic course to full membership in the EU and NATO.
Welcoming the anti-corruption measures that have been introduced in Ukraine, the UWC joins PAC in reiterating the call for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to rescind the requirement for civil society activists working on corruption-related issues to file e-declarations of their assets.
“The Ukrainian World Congress commends the all-encompassing Statement and Recommendations of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee and remains committed to continue supporting activities that further the implementation of reforms and continued development of EU-Ukraine relations,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
