UWC’s IECC invites participation in ‘We Remember’ Holodomor family stories

The UWC’s International Educational Coordinating Council (IECC) of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), together with the Global Holodomor Descendants Network, invites students, teachers, and educational leaders to take part in the international research project “We Remember.”

The initiative focuses on preserving family stories and descendants of victims of the 1932–1933 Holodomor, the genocide of the Ukrainian people that was orchestrated by the Soviet regime under dictator Joseph Stalin and his henchmen that forcibly starved to death millions of people.

As part of the project, participants will create a series of short informational videos sharing the memories and experiences passed down through generations of Ukrainian families who endured this tragedy. The goal is to preserve this living memory and pass it on to future generations worldwide.

High school students from Ukrainian studies schools abroad and in Ukraine, as well as teachers willing to record video interviews with the descendants of Holodomor victims, are invited to participate.

All submitted videos will become part of the project’s digital archive and will be featured on the website of the Global Holodomor Descendants Network in November, marking the 92nd anniversary of the tragedy.

“The Holodomor of 1932–1933 is not just a page in history but a living national memory that Ukrainians continue to protect and pass on,” the IECC of the UWC said.

Each November, Ukraine and the global Ukrainian community honor the memory of the victims of the Holodomor. This year, Holodomor Remembrance Day will be observed on Saturday, Nov. 22.
