‘We Remember’ Holodomor project: how to join

The Global Holodomor Descendants Network and the International Educational Coordinating Council (IECC) of the Ukrainian World Congress on May 28 held an informational meeting as part of the student research project “We Remember,” which focuses on family stories of Holodomor descendants.

“We have intensified our efforts on this project,” said Lyuba Lyubchyk, Chair of the UWC’s IECC.

“In past years, the project mainly involved Ukrainians from Canada and the United States, but this year, through our combined efforts, we are expanding this important initiative on a much larger scale,” Lyubchyk said.

“To date, Ukrainian educational communities in Australia, Türkiye, the UAE, Spain, Italy, France, Sweden, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Peru, Canada, and the U.S. had confirmed their participation,” she said.

During the meeting, Lyubchyk addressed educators with a welcome message.

Olya Soroka of Chicago, the chair of the Holodomor Descendants Network, presented the work of the UWC’s International Holodomor Committee, while project coordinator Zina Gutmanis provided an overview of the initiative.

“We Remember” is a series of informational videos featuring testimonies from Ukrainian families about the genocide they endured during the 1932–1933 Holodomor.

“We invite diaspora school leaders and teachers, senior students from Ukrainian studies programs worldwide, as well as students in Ukraine interested in the family stories of Holodomor descendants and willing to record video interviews with them, to participate,” Lyubchyk said.

All recorded interviews will become part of the project’s digital archive and will be showcased on the Holodomor Descendants Network website this November, coinciding with the 92nd anniversary of the 1932–1933 Holodomor genocide.
