Will Poland have to go to war if Ukraine fails?

If Ukraine fails to defend its independence, Poland will have no choice but enter the conflict, the Polish Ambassador to France, Jan Emeryk Rościszewski, told French LCI television on Friday.

The diplomat’s words have stirred up a storm, according to Poland’s RMF 24.

During the conversation with the LCI, Rościszewski explained that Poland is trying to stay away from the armed conflict, but at the same time, it is doing its best to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression. The Polish diplomat spoke about the threats associated with the imperialist tendencies of the authorities of the Russian Federation.

On Sunday, the Polish Embassy in France was forced to issue a statement on the matter, which points out that “some media have interpreted the interview out of context” of the half-hour conversation with LCI.

“Ambassador Rościszewski argued that the allies needed to support Ukraine. He also spoke about the threat that Russia poses to Europe and European values. Listening carefully to the entire conversation allows us to understand that there was no announcement of Poland’s direct involvement in the conflict but only a warning against the consequences that Ukraine’s defeat may have – the possibility of Russia attacking or drawing into the war more Central European countries – the Baltic states and Poland,” the statement reads.
