The Yavir School of Ukrainian Dance represented both Canada and Ukraine at the FIFAS 2025 International Folklore Festival in Argentina. More than 6,000 dancers from more than 20 countries participated in the yearly event.
“Nearly 20 dancers from Yavir, all born in Canada to Ukrainian families, shared their deep connection to Ukrainian heritage on this international stage,” the school said.
The week-long festival, held for the 19th time, filled the Homero Manzi stage and surrounding venues with music, color, and culture, “highlighting the unity and diversity of world folklore.”
Through their participation, Yavir promoted Ukrainian culture and strengthened connections within the global Ukrainian community, representing both their national and historical roots.
“Led by Artistic Director Krista Samborsky and Senior Instructor Yaroslav Sekunda, the ensemble performed three traditional dances, including the world-famous Hopak, earning standing ovations after every performance,” the troupe said.
Festival audiences and participants were captivated by the vibrant costumes, dynamic choreography, and cultural pride of the dancers, with many taking photos with them.
“Even local politicians and public figures came to greet the group, recognizing their artistry and warm representation of Ukrainian culture,” the troupe added.
Yavir’s participation became one of the festival’s highlights, showcasing the energy, beauty, and spirit of Ukrainian folk dance while strengthening friendly and cultural ties among all attendees.
