Zelenskyy: Russia plans to sabotage Global Peace Summit

Russia will try to sabotage the Global Peace Summit planned for June in Switzerland, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press conference with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola in Kyiv.

“If international law and the will of the world majority work for us, they will be able to work for the restoration of peace for all. That is why the Peace Summit is important; that is why Putin is trying to sabotage it. He will do this through attempts to increase pressure on the front, launch new offensive actions, manipulate politics, and attempts to divide the international community,” Zelenskyy said.

The President emphasized that the Summit could be a chance to restore and guarantee a just peace for Ukraine and the whole of Europe. “Putin is really afraid of the Peace Summit. He’s afraid that the world majority will start forcing Russia to make peace,” Zelenskyy added.

Ukraine needs the “absolutely qualitative” position of every state, as “neutrality in who is an occupier and who is a victim cannot exist,” the President said.

The Global Peace Summit will take place on June 15-16. The high-level conference will take place at the Bürgenstock resort in the canton of Nidwalden outside Lucerne. Participants from 80 to 100 countries are expected. In April, Zelenskyy said Russia has a specific plan to sabotage the Summit.
