Russia is deliberately trying to draw the European Union into addressing its own security issues to divert attention and resources from supporting Ukraine, said UWC Executive Committee member Zenon Kowal in an interview with Tsybulko Talk.
Kowal is also a political adviser to the European Congress of Ukrainians and the Association of Ukrainians in Belgium, as well as former Special Adviser to the Embassy of Ukraine in Belgium (1992-1995).
“Through drones and other hybrid means, the Russians are essentially telling Europeans: ‘Focus on your own security issues and turn away from supporting Ukraine,’” Kowal said.
However, Europeans are not falling into this trap, he said.
“It’s clear they understand: without security in Ukraine, there can be no security in Europe.”
He also said that the EU recognizes the value of having the Ukrainian army, one of the most capable and experienced in the world, on its side.
The interview also covered the outcomes of the European Political Community conference in Copenhagen, European countries’ positions on supporting Kyiv, coordination challenges between France and Germany, and Ukraine’s EU integration.
