Number of casualties in Russian attack on central Kharkiv rises to 8, including newborn
A strike in the center of Kharkiv, caused by a Russian Iskander missile, has resulted in 8 people being injured, including an 8-month-old baby. The attack occurred in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, damaging a polyclinic, cars, and other civilian infrastructure. Medics have provided assistance to at least five injured civilians, two of whom required surgery and the others were treated on an outpatient basis. Law enforcement officers are currently at the scene investigating the incident.
Investigative teams, criminalists, and explosive specialists are providing assistance to remove ammunition fragments and document the crime against civilians.

The Council of the European Union has approved the allocation of EUR 4.2 billion in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility program. This decision supports Ukraine’s macro-financial stability and its public administration’s functioning. Ukraine has met the necessary conditions and reforms outlined in the Ukraine Plan to receive these funds, which include reforms in public financial management, state-owned enterprises, the business environment, energy, and demining. Due to Ukraine’s difficult financial situation, the EU Council emphasized the importance of disbursing the funds as soon as possible. The Ukraine Plan outlines Ukraine’s intentions for recovery, reconstruction, and modernization and the reforms planned for the EU accession process over the next four years.

During the day in the Kherson Oblast, rescuers extinguished 13 fires. Eight were caused by enemy shelling, and four outbuildings were on fire in various settlements within the Kherson district. Additionally, 8 fires related to dead wood were also extinguished, covering a combined area of 8.55 hectares. The rescuers’ efforts were successful in combating these fires and preventing further damage.

The video shows the Russian occupiers’ heavy and light vehicles, their “wall” surveillance systems, hangars and workshops used by the Russians for military logistics, and enemy field fortifications on fire.

Ukraine’s Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR), citing satellite imagery, reported that Ukrainian drone strikes destroyed an Su-34 bomber aircraft and an ammunition warehouse at the Morozovsk Airfield in Rostov Oblast on August 3.
The GUR reported on August 5 that the imagery shows that debris from falling Ukrainian drones also damaged two more aircraft, four “technical buildings,” and two hangars at the airfield. A Russian milblogger claimed on August 4 that 18 Ukrainian drones struck their targets and destroyed an Su-34 bomber aircraft and a warehouse with aviation weapons and damaged a flight control point and engineering equipment during the August 3 strike.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces conducted a series of successful drone strikes against likely military targets in Rostov, Kursk, and Belgorod oblasts, including the Morozovsk Airfield, on August 3.

Senior fighter Vitaliy Sokotniuk, call sign Teplyk, died on January 21, 2024 in a battle with the enemy near the village of Ivanivske, Bakhmut direction, Donetsk Oblast. On January 16, the fighter turned 44 years old.
Vitaliy was born in the village of Teplyk, Vinnytsia Oblast. He studied at the local school №2. Then he received the profession of electrician at the Teplyk Agricultural Lyceum. He served his military service. He worked for a long time at Teplyk power company.
In March 2023, the man was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade named after Kosh Ataman Ivan Sirko. He was a rifleman assistant to a grenade launcher of an assault squad.
“Vitaliy was a good family man, a loving father, a loyal friend, a man of word and deed. He was a courageous, brave and fearless warrior,” said neighbor Nadiya Dzibko. The defender was buried in his native village near his parents. Vitaliy is survived by his wife Tetiana, daughter Valentyna and son Andriy.
