EU has 'credible information' Iran sent ballistic missiles to Russia
The European Union has received credible evidence that Iran is supplying ballistic missiles to Russia, according to EU spokesman Peter Stano. This follows recent media reports that Tehran had sent these missiles to support Russian troops in their war with Ukraine. Stano stated that if confirmed, this delivery would represent a significant escalation of Iran’s support for Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine.
The EU is studying the issue and will respond quickly and in coordination with international partners, including imposing new and significant restrictive measures against Iran. The US State Department also warned that the transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Moscow would be a dramatic escalation. A Ukrainian military source claimed that a shipment of 200 Iranian ballistic missiles had already arrived at an undisclosed port on the Caspian Sea.
In response, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Iran’s actions would have devastating consequences for bilateral relations. Iran has denied these allegations.

In the Kharkiv Oblast, occupants targeted rescuers and prevented them from eliminating the aftermath of airstrikes. The previous day, enemy aircraft bombed the center of Kupyansk, causing significant destruction to infrastructure and fires in three shops. Fortunately, there were no casualties. When the rescuers arrived, the fire had spread across an area of 800 square meters. Despite their efforts to extinguish the fires, the enemy repeatedly shelled the location with artillery, forcing the rescuers to take cover multiple times. However, each time they resumed their work, the shelling would begin again. It was only today that the rescuers were able to finally extinguish all the fires. A total of 12 rescuers, including a medical team from the Dnipropetrovs’k State Emergency Service, were working at the site of the shelling.

Kremlin officials are likely trying to shape international peace mediation efforts in the war in Ukraine while demonstrating Russia’s unwillingness to engage in good-faith negotiations with Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the Russia-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting in Saudi Arabia on September 9.[6] The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) claimed that Lavrov discussed the war in Ukraine with Vieira and Jaishankar but did not offer details.
Brazil and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) have promoted their “Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis” six-point peace plan — whose key principles favor Russia — since May 2024.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi notably recently reaffirmed India’s support for peace in Ukraine based on principles of international law such as respect for territorial integrity and the sovereignty of states. Lavrov, however, reiterated boilerplate Kremlin narratives on September 9 demonstrating Russia’s unwillingness to engage in good-faith negotiations with Ukraine, claiming that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Peace Formula — which is indeed based on principles of international law — is an “ultimatum” and that Russia has never seriously considered the plan.
Ukrainian officials have openly invited a Russian representative to attend Ukraine’s second peace summit later in 2024.
