The United States must significantly increase pressure on Russia in response to the Kremlin’s unwillingness to restore peace in Ukraine, said Andrij Dobriansky, director of communications at the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, in an interview with NewsNation.
Washington has several options to step up its efforts, he said.
“What we could do is we could increase the amount of weapons that Ukraine has so that even the 12% rate of drone attacks that actually hit becomes more meaningless, causing Russia to keep spending millions, and some nights billions, of dollars on missiles and rockets against Ukraine, making it even more meaningless for Russia,” Dobriansky said.
He said that Russia’s military losses, which have now exceeded 1.25 million, must become “so painful that Moscow is forced to rethink its strategy.”
“If Putin does not want a ceasefire, then what? Then we need to ratchet up the pressure. That’s what we did with Iran,” Dobriansky said. “You know, President Trump was very open. He did not want a conflict with Iran and openly advocated against Israel attacking Iran. But when push came to shove, he needed to make a statement.”
He also told viewers that Ukraine had already proposed a ceasefire framework back in 2022, which included a ban on any military action near nuclear power plants.
“We must return to the basic rules of war,” he said. “Just this year, five hospitals have been nearly destroyed by Russian missile attacks. Over the past three months alone, the number of Ukrainian children killed has tripled.”
Dobriansky said that Russia is committing more war crimes.
“What needs to happen? Not only a swift exchange of all prisoners of war, but also the release of most — if not all — of the 20,000 Ukrainian children abducted by Russia,” he said.
Russia attacks Ukrainian cities and villages daily. The Ukrainian World Congress publishes news on the largest shelling incidents. More detailed information on the consequences of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, read the Victory Chronicles.
