Easter in wartime: Now is not the time for fatigue. Now is the time to act

Christ is Risen!

This year, Easter comes to us twice – on April 5 for Western Christians and April 12 for Eastern Christians. Ukrainians around the world will gather at festive tables, but our thoughts are all with Ukraine.

In his Easter message, Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian World Congress, reminds us that this celebration of light and hope comes amid a devastating war.

“Let us remember our brothers and sisters in Ukraine – those bravely standing on the front lines, and those living, studying, and working in Ukraine to keep it sovereign and free, despite near-daily Russian drone and missile attacks. Their courage and commitment is extraordinary. Our resolve and support must match theirs..”

The main message from the UWC President is clear: now is not the time for fatigue. Now is the time to act.

That’s why the UWC is urging everyone to join the “Fight Like a Ukrainian” campaign within the Unite with Ukraine initiative. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, this global support network has raised and delivered over $110 million to Ukrainian defenders. But the need remains daily and urgent.

Easter is not just about faith – it’s about responsibility.

Today, that responsibility has a very tangible meaning. As Andrew Potichnyj, director of the initiative, explains, on the frontlines, every minute counts. Injuries from mines, shrapnel, or explosions demand immediate response, and the medical system must operate like a continuous chain – from a soldier with a first-aid kit to evacuation.

And this chain relies not just on heroism, but on steady support.

Regular contributions – even small ones – allow the initiative to:

  • Train soldiers in tactical medicine
  • Provide first-aid kits and medical equipment
  • Support stabilization points
  • Organize safe evacuation of the wounded

This is not one-time help. It’s a system that saves lives every day.

“When someone clicks Donate, they trigger a global process – from procurement to delivery directly into the hands of combat medics,” Potichnyj explains.

In this war, there are no small details. A tourniquet, bandage, or thermal blanket can mean the difference between life and death. Regular support is what keeps this system running.

Easter is about renewal and new life. For Ukrainian soldiers, it often means a literal second chance – a “second birthday,” as medics say.

And each of us can be part of that.

Take your step. Join “Fight Like a Ukrainian.”

Be part of the victory. Be part of Ukraine’s future.

Glory to Ukraine!

Happy Easter!
