Supporting the anti-mullah protests in Iran is an essential part of the global fight against authoritarian regimes that back Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, said Oles Horodetskyy, who chairs the Christian Association of Ukrainians in Italy, in an interview with ANSA.it.
“We have been supporting the Iranian protest movement for years, since the very beginning of protests against the ayatollahs’ regime, because this is part of the same war,” Horodetskyy said. “The Iranian people are fighting the criminal regime of Khamenei, a close ally of Putin.”
Horodetskyy added that the Iranian regime plays a key role in supplying Russia with weapons that are used to strike Ukraine. According to Bloomberg, Tehran has sold Moscow weapons worth approximately $4 billion.
“These are missiles and Shahed suicide drones that fall on Ukrainian cities every day and kill Ukrainian civilians,” he said.
The head of the Christian Society of Ukrainians in Italy also stressed any victory of a democratic movement in Iran would be closely interconnected with Ukraine.
“We believe in a shared victory: the Iranian people will win, the Ukrainian people will win, and dictatorships will be overthrown,” Horodetskyy said.
