Moldova has appointed Dmitrii Lecartev, who heads the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova (NCUM), to its National Commission for European Integration in a move that underlines the growing role of national communities in the country’s reform agenda.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who chairs the commission, signed the decree on Nov. 10, the NCUM reported.
It expands the 64-body that is tasked with steering Moldova’s alignment with European Union standards. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu serves as the deputy chair, with Veronica Mihailov-Moraru as the presidential adviser on justice serving as the secretary.
“Including a representative of the NCUM in this important national body recognizes the contribution of Moldova’s Ukrainian community to the country’s democratic reforms and European integration,” the NCUM said.
Other members include the parliament speaker, vice prime ministers, ministers, and heads of key state agencies, such as the Information and Security Service, the National Anti-Corruption Center, the National Bank, the Audiovisual Council, the State Services Agency, and the Customs Service, as well as representatives of civil society, academia, employers, and trade unions.
The National Commission for European Integration coordinates efforts required to implement Moldova’s reforms and priorities under its partnerships and agreements with the European Union. The commission ensures alignment between government institutions, civil society organizations, and expert groups in advancing the European agenda.
The Ukrainian World Congress warmly congratulates Dmitrii Lecartev on his appointment. Having a representative of the Ukrainian community on the commission is an important step in strengthening the role of Ukrainians in Moldova’s democratic and European integration processes. It also highlights the NCUM’s contribution to fostering dialogue between the government and national communities, as well as promoting the country’s European course.
