Pro-Ukraine protest planned in Alaska ahead of Trump-Putin summit

A protest in support of Ukraine will take place in Anchorage, Alaska’s most populous city, ahead of a planned meeting between Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump on Aug. 15.

Their meeting’s purpose is to seek an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine that Putin started in 2014.

The anti-Putin rally is being organised by the nonprofit Stand Up Alaska.

Let’s come together in Anchorage, Alaska, to protest against an international war criminal hanging out here. Even though the governor’s on board, President Trump invited Vladimir Putin! We’re here to tell Trump and Putin: Alaska opposes tyranny!” the organizers said.

The protest is scheduled for Aug. 14 and will be held as a peaceful demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine.

Previously, the Ukrainian World Congress has welcomed President Trump’s efforts to establish peace in Ukraine but stresses that peace cannot come at the cost of the country’s sovereignty.

The UWC calls for support of Ukraine’s right to determine its own future, defend itself, restore the international order, condemn Russian aggression, and hold Russia accountable for its crimes.
