Seven killed as Russia strikes Ukraine, drones reach Moldova

KYIV – At least seven civilians were killed and another 20 injured in yet another combined Russian aerial attack on Kyiv overnight on Nov. 25.

The barrage came in two waves, with Russia using sea-launched cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and numerous attack drones, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.

The main Russian attack overnight targeted the capital and the region, causing extensive damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure across the city,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote.

Russian forces hit residential buildings in two districts of the city and a non-residential building in another. As of midday on Nov. 25, search and rescue operations were still underway.

Russia also attacked the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Cherkasy regions. Energy systems were the main targets and everything “that keeps normal life going”, Zelenskyy said.

Some cities, including Kharkiv, have already introduced water supply schedules, in addition to rolling blackouts to not overload energy grids during peak usage times.

In total, Russia launched 22 various types of projectiles, including aeroballistic missiles, and more than 460 drones, most of them the Russian-Iranian Shahed type.

It is [also] known that four drones crossed into the airspace of our neighbors – Moldova and Romania – with the exact overflight times confirmed,” the Ukrainian president said.

Moldova’s Defense Ministry confirmed that during the massive attack, its monitoring systems detected six drones in the country’s airspace, one of which crashed onto the roof of a house in the village of Nižni Kukurești.

This is precisely why all partners must remember that lives need to be saved every single day,” Zelenskyy said.

He said it is now essential for all partners to move together, through joint efforts, toward diplomacy.

Pressure on Russia must deliver results,” Zelenskyy said.
