Ternopil and Brazilian twin city Prudentópolis deepen partnership

A meeting in Ternopil on Sept. 1 marked another step in forging cooperation between the western Ukrainian city and its twin city of Prudentópolis in southern Brazil, Jornal da Manhã reported.

Vitório Sorotiuk, a UWC board member and former head of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation, delivered a letter and gifts from Prudentópolis Mayor Adelmo Luiz Klosowski to Ternopil Mayor Serhii Nadal.

The Brazilian mayor expressed solidarity with Ukraine and the people of Ternopil.

“In this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with you. We send you courage and best wishes,” Klosowski said in an official letter.

Beyond words of support, the letter outlined a new stage of partnership: the launch of a clothing brand in Prudentópolis that features Ukrainian embroidery. The initiative, carried out in cooperation with Ternopil, aims to boost the local textile industry while preserving the traditions of Brazil’s Ukrainian community.

Prudentópolis also plans to expand cultural, social, and economic exchanges with Ternopil, seeing the partnership as a way to honor shared history while building for the future.

Earlier in March, the Brazilian city marked the sixth anniversary of its sister-city agreement with Ternopil. At that time, the two sides discussed joint projects, including online Ukrainian language courses for Prudentópolis residents and initiatives to strengthen the textile sector.

Known as the unofficial “Ukrainian capital of Brazil,” Prudentópolis continues to preserve and promote Ukrainian culture and identity across the ocean.
