The UK unveils record aid package for Ukraine

As announced on the British government’s website, the United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with the largest military aid package in history. The country’s PM Rishi Sunak declared the significant increase in support during his visit to Poland on April 23.

Defending Ukraine against Russia’s brutal ambitions is vital for our security and for all of Europe. If Putin is allowed to succeed in this war of aggression, he will not stop at the Polish border,” said Rishi Sunak.

This support, among other things, is intended to counter Russian aggression on land, sea, and air. The package includes 60 boats, maritime guns, over 1600 strike and air defense missiles, including Storm Shadow long-range missiles, 400 vehicles, and nearly 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition.

Ukraine is facing an existential threat as Russia continues its barbaric invasion, risking the security and stability of all of Europe,” the government statement said.

The aid package of £500 million will increase the UK’s military assistance to Ukraine to £3 billion this year. The funds will be used to rapidly deliver urgently needed ammunition, air defense systems, drones, and engineering support. The United Kingdom will procure drones.

In Warsaw, the UK Prime Minister, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will discuss Russia’s threats and support for European security. Afterwards, Sunak will head to Germany and meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin.
