Thirty-first National Ukrainian dance festival opens in Brazil

The XXXI National Festival of Ukrainian Dance opened in the city of Mallet, in the Brazilian state of Paraná, Vitório Sorotiuk, a UWC board member and former head of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation, reported.

The event was organized by the Ukrainian folk ensemble Spomen and featured 23 Ukrainian folk groups: 20 from Brazil, 2 from Argentina, and 1 from Paraguay.

Around 700 people participated in the festival. At the opening ceremony, the national anthems of Ukraine and Brazil were performed.

“The participants sang both anthems with equal devotion and love,” Sorotiuk said.

The festival has become a major event for the Ukrainian communities in South America, bringing together representatives from multiple countries to celebrate and preserve Ukrainian culture and traditions.
