The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) has unveiled six recipients of this year’s Taras Shevchenko Medal, the organization’s highest honor that recognizes exceptional contributions to Ukrainian life in Canada and beyond.
This year’s honorees include Dr. Roman Petryshyn, folklorist Brian Cherwick, artist and sculptor Oleh Lesiuk, Ukrainian community leader Olesia Luciw-Andryjowycz, BCU Financial CEO Oksana Protsiuk Ciz, and Dr. Petro Kondra.
The medals will be formally presented at a gala banquet on Nov. 15, as part of the 28th Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians in Toronto.
Established in 1962, the Taras Shevchenko Medal is the UCC’s most prestigious award.
“Congratulations to this year’s recipients on this distinguished honor!” the UCC said.
The UCC also invites members of the global Ukrainian community to participate in the 28th Triennial Congress, which will bring together community leaders, politicians, government representatives, and active citizens to discuss key issues that affect Ukrainians in Canada and to shape a strategic vision for the future.
