UK prime minister: Putin not ready to end the war

Ukraine and its allies are closer to achieving peace more than ever before, but Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin is still not willing to agree to any conditions for ending the war.

This was stated by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer while commenting on progress in the peace process following the “Coalition of the Willing” meeting in Paris on Jan. 6, according to European Pravda.

We are closer to that goal [more] than ever. But the hardest yards are still ahead,” Starmer said, emphasizing that European and American allies must work closely together to secure peace.

At the same time, the prime minister noted that Putin “is not showing that he is ready for peace” and continues to demonstrate his intent to prolong the war.

Over the last few weeks, we have seen the opposite: further horrific strikes on Ukraine, killing and wounding civilians and cutting off power from millions of people in the dead of winter,” Starmer said.

During the Paris meeting, Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a declaration of intent to deploy troops in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.

The British prime minister described the document as an integral part of long-term commitments to support Ukraine and pledged to continue applying pressure on Russia while providing support to Ukraine.

Starmer also stated that the UK will participate in monitoring a potential ceasefire under U.S. auspices.
