Ukraine pioneers AI tool to outpace Russia on the battlefield

Ukraine is harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to gain a decisive edge in modern warfare. Ukrainian developers have unveiled Clarity, an AI-based program that automatically detects military equipment and signs of enemy presence in photos and videos, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov told the publication Mezha.

“Previously, analysts spent hours manually reviewing drone intelligence. Ukrainian developers found a solution. Meet Clarity, a Ukrainian AI program for analyzing photo and video data,” Fedorov said.

The software accelerates the engagement process by up to 90 percent, allowing intelligence officers to act faster and with greater precision. Remarkably, Clarity runs on a standard laptop, placing powerful battlefield analysis tools directly in the hands of frontline units.

The program’s developer won the pre-seed startup competition at the Happy New Fear Hackathon by Brave1 and received a grant to develop an advanced version, Clarity Pro.

Key features of Clarity Pro include: rapid photo and video decoding in seconds, geotagging images on maps, and automatic generation and interpretation of orthophoto maps.

According to Fedorov, Clarity is already used by over 250 pilots, analysts, and intelligence officers from units such as Achilles, Nemesis, Rubizh, the 40th Separate Brigade of Special Operations, and others.

The program continues to be refined based on their feedback.
