Ukrainian culinary tribute to award-winning artist debuts internationally

An innovative dessert that honors Ukrainian artist Varvara Karynska was presented abroad for the first time during the Forum of Ukrainians of Eastern Europe in Przemyśl, Poland.

One of the dessert’s co-creators, Myroslava Novosad, prepared it live at the event, introducing guests from multiple countries to this unique culinary creation. This marked the first time the dessert had traveled outside Ukraine since its creation in early 2025.

The dessert was featured in a charity auction, with all proceeds being donated to the “One United Fundraiser,” the largest defense fundraising initiative in Ukraine’s history. The winning bid came from Ukrainian World Congress President Paul Grod.

Karynska was the first Ukrainian to win an Academy Award for costume design for the Joan of Arc movie. She also created the classic ballet tutu that are worn by dancers worldwide. She was a favorite costume designer of Elizabeth Taylor and worked with icons like actress Marlene Dietrich and artist Salvador Dalí, leaving a lasting mark on global stage and costume design.

The dessert was created by Kyiv-based chef Yevhen Klopotenko, pastry chef Myroslava Novosad, and Ukrainian culinary researcher Vsevolod Polishchuk. Made with meringue, it celebrates creativity and Ukrainian design.

The Forum of Ukrainians of Eastern Europe — the first large-scale gathering of Ukrainian communities from thirteen countries — took place in Przemyśl on Dec. 12–14.
