On February 23, 2026, a new shipment of 50 MOVES® SLC™ mobile life support systems arrived in Kyiv through the combined efforts of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Unite with Ukraine initiative and the Maple Hope Foundation. These advanced systems are specifically designed to provide emergency medical care to severely wounded soldiers directly on the battlefield.
As part of the deployment of this medical technology donation to Ukraine, Thornhill Medical provided combat care training to military medical teams who will be using the systems to treat and transport injured civilian and military Ukrainians. The MOVES® SLC™ system is the only micro integrated portable life support technology of its kind in the world. Each unit combines an oxygen concentrator, a unique oxygen-conserving ventilator, suction capability, and a complete vital sign monitoring system in a single rugged, battery powered device. Designed for combat conditions, the systems eliminate the need for heavy and hazardous oxygen tanks.
The Government of Canada supported the initiative led by the Maple Hope Foundation and the Ukrainian World Congress by providing the life-support systems, which have already been deployed to the front lines.
Recipients of the systems include the 1st Corps of the Ukrainian National Guard “Azov,” 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Khartia,” “Liut” Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine, Special Group “Alpha” of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Ukrainian Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 22nd Mechanized Brigade, the 151st Separate Mechanized Brigade, 3rd Army Corps, the 5th Separate Assault Brigade “Kyiv,” the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and brigades of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, among others.
This assistance package, valued at $10 million (UAH 315 million), includes specialized training for Ukrainian doctors and medics.
“Through the Unite with Ukraine initiative, the Ukrainian World Congress, together with our trusted partners at Maple Hope Foundation and Thornhill Medical, continues to deliver life-saving medical capabilities directly to those defending Ukraine on the front lines. The arrival of these advanced MOVES® SLC™ systems reflects the unwavering solidarity of Ukrainians worldwide and Canada’s steadfast support. The Ukrainian World Congress continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with our heroic defenders, ensuring they are equipped with the most advanced tools to save lives in combat conditions. By equipping and training frontline medical teams with cutting-edge technology, we are helping save lives today while strengthening Ukraine’s long-term resilience as it defends its sovereignty and prepares for recovery.”
Paul Grod, President, Ukrainian World Congress
“The continued delivery of the MOVES® SLC™ systems to Ukraine reflects the steadfast commitment of Maple Hope Foundation and its partners to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes to win and recover from Russia’s war of aggression. Through this fifth assistance package, more than 70 physicians — including military anesthesiologists — have completed intensive, hands-on training, bringing the total number of medics trained to over 350. Together with our colleagues, we are investing in long-term medical capacity — ensuring Ukrainian combat medics and doctors have not only state-of-the-art equipment but the expertise and operational readiness to save lives today and sustain that capacity over time.”
Tetiana Kostiuk, Vice President of Operations, Maple Hope Foundation
“Modern warfare is not only about weaponry, but also about the ability to save lives on the battlefield. The transfer of these systems will strengthen the capacity of our medical units to act quickly and effectively in the most difficult conditions on the battlefield.
I am grateful to the Ukrainian World Congress, the Maple Hope Foundation, the Government of Canada, and all partners who are turning international solidarity into concrete assistance for Ukraine.
This assistance is an example of long-term support that strengthens our defense capabilities and saves the lives of Ukrainian servicemen every day,”
Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
“People who have received this equipment are always initially afraid to use it because of the cost, certain personal fears and concerns, but we are gradually overcoming this, and in fact, this training is primarily organized in order to overcome these fears. Once again, we must remember that it is impossible to teach someone just once, our brain is capable of forgetting, this is one of its functions. Therefore, if we do not maintain high-quality preparation of the soldier, constant training, constant retraining, constant requalification or additional training, this has always been relevant and important.”
Vitalii Lukiianchuk, Anesthesiologist and Resident Doctor, Medical Unit, 118th Mechanized Brigade
