UWC call on French leaders to stand united in the face of Russian threat

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) has appealed directly to France’s leadership and lawmakers to maintain political stability at a time when Russia is openly targeting France and Europe.

The global organization on Oct. 16 sent letters to all 577 members of the French National Assembly, as well as to President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, cautioning that Russian destabilization campaigns through disinformation, interference, and military provocations are intensifying.

“France stands on the frontline of democracy,” the UWC wrote. “Russia has named your country as a primary target. In moments like these, unity and political stability are not just national imperatives — they are a shield for all of Europe.”

The organization expressed gratitude to the French people for their unwavering support of Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-blown invasion.

“Ukraine is a bastion of Europe, and supporting its struggle means defending our own security,” the letter said.

Volodymyr Kogutyak, UWC Vice President for Western Europe and Vice President of the Association of Ukrainians in France (AUF), stressed that unity among French politicians is crucial.

“The most honorable pages of history are forged in the most challenging moments. Mistakes avoided today will be appreciated by future generations,” he said.

The call comes amid France’s ongoing political turmoil: five prime ministers in two years, a fragmented parliament, and persistent social unrest. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu resigned on Oct. 6 after less than a month in office, and despite two failed no-confidence votes on Oct. 16, instability persists.

As far-right and far-left factions threatening new elections ahead of the 2026 municipal and 2027 presidential contests, UWC urges French leaders to rise above divisions and confront external threats together to safeguard not only France but the future of Europe itself.
