The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) expresses deep sorrow and condolences on the passing on 24 October 2016 of renowned academic, philanthropist and Ukrainian community activist, Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn (1926-2016).
The global Ukrainian community remembers Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn as a great patriot of Ukraine who made a significant contribution to the consolidation of the Ukrainian national ideal and formation of an independent Ukrainian state; he was a member and builder of Plast Ukrainian Youth Association; furthered the development of a new generation of Ukrainians, including during Ukrainian diaspora youth forums, was an example and inspiration for dedicated service to Ukraine, and a faithful son of the Ukrainian people which he particularly highlighted with his book Zalyshayus ukrayintsem (A Ukrainian I remain).
In 2013 the UWC awarded Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn its highest honor, the Medal of St. Volodymyr the Great, in recognition of his great contribution to the development of the Ukrainian community in the diaspora and Ukraine.
Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn held a Ph.D. in Economics and Social Science (University of Geneva, Switzerland) and Honorary Doctorates from seven universities. He was a member of the World Academy of Art and Science, Swiss Forum on International Policy, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and a recognized contributor to science and technology in Ukraine. In addition, Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn was an advisor on issues of state governance, and served as a consultant to multinational corporations and high-ranking world officials, specifically the first President of Ukraine, four Chairpersons of the Parliament of Ukraine, and three Prime Ministers of Ukraine. Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn was a founder of the International Management Institute – Kyiv, International Renaissance Foundation, Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Charitable Foundation, Council of Advisors to the Presidium of the Parliament of Ukraine and International Centre for Policy Studies.
Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn was bestowed highest honors by Ukraine, Canada and Italy.
The UWC leadership and membership shares the deep pain of the family and friends of the late Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn and prays for the repose of his soul.
