UWC hails Moldova’s pro-European election outcome as victory for democracy

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the results of Moldova’s Sept. 28 parliamentary elections, which delivered a decisive win for the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) led by President Maia Sandu.

The vote, UWC said, marks a historic step toward democracy, freedom, and a European integration, and reaffirms Moldovans’ commitment to building a sovereign state anchored in European values.

“This is a victory not only for Moldova, but also for Europe and Ukraine. It is also a strong rebuff to Russia’s attempts to undermine the democratic process through disinformation, propaganda, and cyberwarfare. A democratic, sovereign, and European Moldova is vital for Ukraine’s security,” said UWC President Paul Grod.

According to numerous reports, Russia sought to interfere in the elections through large-scale vote buying and by spreading fears over Moldova’s EU membership on social media. Despite these efforts, the vote proceeded successfully without major violations, though some incidents were recorded.

PAS secured 50.16 percent of the vote, while the “Patriotic Bloc,” led by former pro-Russian president Igor Dodon, received 24.19 percent.

The UWC and the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova congratulate Moldovan voters on this courageous, pro-European choice.

The UWC calls on all democratic forces to support Moldova’s continued path toward stability, reform, and European integration, as this election demonstrates that freedom, democracy, and European values always prevail over aggression and authoritarian pressure.
