UWC President Eugene Czolij participates in 90th anniversary celebration of Ukrainian Cultural Association Prosvita in Argentina

28 November – 1 December 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij travelled to Buenos Aires where he participated in celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the Ukrainian Cultural Association Prosvita in Argentina (Prosvita) and met with the leaderships of the Ukrainian Central Representation in Argentina,  Prosvita and the Ukrainian Youth Association Plast.




On 28 November 2014, in the Golden room of the Palace of the Buenos Aires City Legislature, during the official commemoration of the 90th anniversary of Prosvita, Eugene Czolij acknowledged its Board and President Jorge Danylyszyn for preserving Ukrainian national values and presented the Ukrainian Cultural Association Prosvita with a Certificate of Recognition “For long-term dedicated work for the benefit of the Ukrainian people in Argentina and Ukraine.” In his address, the UWC President called upon Ukrainians in Argentina to defend the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. During this commemoration, Prosvita awarded its medal of distinction to UWC President Eugene Czolij, Secretary for Human Rights and Cultural Diversity of the City of Buenos Aires Claudio Avrukh and President of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation Vitorio Sorotiuk.

 


On 29 November 2014 the UWC President attended a concert organized by Prosvita at the Auditorio Belgrano featuring artistic ensembles from Argentina – the Kolomiya dance group from Posadas, the Ukrainian folk dance ensemble Prosvita comprised of current and former members, the Taras Shevchenko Bandurist Ensemble, the Charivnytsi quartet, children’s ensembles from Ukrainian heritage schools, soloists Gabriela Veretka and Bohdan Holodek from Buenos Aires, and from Brazil – the folk ensemble Barvinok from Curitiba. Addressing the audience, Eugene Czolij encouraged guests to continue preserving Ukrainian culture which serves as our business card for the international community.

 


On 30 November 2014 Eugene Czolij participated in a liturgy for peace, sovereignty and freedom in Ukraine celebrated in the Holy Protection of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, following which he had the opportunity to share information with the local community about the work of the UWC in defence of Ukraine and urge Ukrainians in Argentina to actively support these UWC activities.

 


The UWC President also discussed the status of Ukrainian churches in Argentina with the Apostolic Administrator of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Dormition of the Blessed Mother in Argentina, Bishop Daniel (Kozlinsky), and relations with the governing authorities of Argentina with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Argentina, Yurii Diudin. Eugene Czolij also met with the leaderships of the Ukrainian Central Representation in Argentina, Prosvita and the Ukrainian Youth Association Plast during which he addressed the issue of cooperation with the UWC and the need to convene a Congress of the Ukrainian Central Representation in Argentina no later than 30 April 2015.

 


“I call upon Ukrainians in Argentina to continue actively engaging in the work of their community organizations, supporting international efforts in defence of the independence of Ukraine and counter Russian disinformation by actively disseminating factual information about current events in Ukraine,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
