Activists in Canada urge support for UWC urgent fundraiser for Ukraine

Activists who have been protesting daily outside the Russian Embassy in Canada since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion are calling on the public to support the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC)’s urgent fundraiser to aid Ukraine.

Today in Ottawa it is –16 °C,, windchill –27 °C. Lucky we can warm up inside! Ukrainians have no heat in their homes for days,” the activists wrote.

Protesters said that Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have left people freezing in their homes.

Please donate for solar panels, battery packs, etc to “Give Ukraine Warmth” fundraiser by the Ukrainian World Congress,” the organizers said.

Protests at the Russian Embassy in Ottawa are held daily. Organizers say the demonstrations will continue without pause for as long as the war in Ukraine lasts.

As long as Russia is in Ukraine, we will be at the Russian Embassy,” the participants said.

Currently, activists are urging people to support Ukraine — especially as many cities and villages remain without heat amid Russian shelling. Every contribution, from solar panels to batteries, can save lives and ease the suffering of civilians.

On Jan. 20, the UWC launched the urgent fundraising campaign in response to a call from the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help the country survive the winter under ongoing war and repeated attacks on energy infrastructure.
