Chicago’s Ukrainians urge participation in Russian Shame Day on May 9

The Ukrainian community in the United States is gearing up for an online campaign titled “Russian Shame Day” on May 9th. This campaign seeks to expose the truths behind Russia’s “Victory Day” celebrations.

“We want to show that there is nothing to celebrate because all of Russia’s achievements are now associated with bloody crimes. Our goal is for everyone involved to simply be ashamed – not only now, but in the future. So that the Russian flag and all Russian symbols and culture they are so proud of are associated with terrible crimes, murders, violence, kidnappings, and killing of children, and so that there is fair punishment for all of this,” said Dr. Mariya Dmytriv-Kapeniak, President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America Illinois Division.

Organizers urge everyone to distribute posters created for the campaign. Initial materials can be found at the link.

“It is important for the descendants of those who are currently fighting against Ukraine and the world to be ashamed for decades for what their future grandfathers and great-grandfathers are doing today,” added Dmytriv-Kapeniak.

The campaign is open to all, as it will be conducted online.
