Spartan armored vehicle, provided by UWC’s “Unite With Ukraine” initiative, survives Russian drone attack: video footage released

One of the FV103 Spartan armored vehicles procured for brigades of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the Ukrainian World Congress’ “Unite with Ukraine” initiative has survived two strikes from Russian “Zala” loitering munitions. The incident took place in Donetsk Oblast.

Following the attack, a Ukrainian soldier documented the aftermath on video. “Ok, in short, Spartan is intact! Some parts of the wing hit it, and I can’t say it’s damaged. Everything adjacent to the Spartan lies destroyed nearby, but on the Spartan itself there is no damage,” the soldier reported.

The footage shows the soldier inspecting the donated armored vehicle. The back door shows minor damage, however the vehicle’s interior remains unaffected. Russian forces, known for systematically utilizing “Zala” loitering munitions, consistently target Ukrainian military assets with these drones. Weighing around twelve kilograms, these drones loiter in the air, tracking targets before executing swift strikes, often resulting in explosions upon impact.

These armored vehicles have been fulfilling combat duties on the front lines for over a year. Provided as part of the UWC’s “Unite with Ukraine” initiative between 2022 and 2023, the initial party, composed of 25 armored vehicles, reached the military in February last year.

The FV103 Spartan, a tracked and armored personnel carrier used by the British army, offers agility and speed while accommodating up to seven servicemen. With a robust welded aluminum hull, measuring up to 60 millimeters in thickness, this vehicle provides formidable protection against shrapnel and high-caliber rounds.
