“I appreciate all EU member states that today expressed their readiness to start working on the seventh package of sanctions when the sixth package is adopted. It is inspiring. There was a clear signal of support for Ukraine,” saidUkrainian Foreign Secretary Dmytro Kuleba after a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on Monday.
At the same time, the EU failed to reach a consensus and finalize the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said on Monday that Hungary’s objections to banning Russian oil were economic rather than political.
Earlier in a meeting with Syrian Patriarch Ignatius Ephraim II, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban confirmed that he would not allow the EU to place sanctions against Russian Patriarch Kirill. Is he worried that without the holy man’s sermons their economy will suffer?
