Ukrainians in Finland protest US-backed ‘peace plan’ outside embassy in Helsinki

The Ukrainian Association in Finland (UAF) staged a protest on Nov. 25 outside the U.S. Embassy in Helsinki denouncing a proposed “peace plan” that they say would legitimize Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“The so-called ‘peace plan’ that legitimizes Russian aggression against Ukraine is unacceptable,” the community said.

Dozens of demonstrators assembled with signs that read: “No one wants peace more than Ukrainians,” “Ukraine is not for sale,” and “Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”

The UAF said that lasting peace is impossible without accountability for Russia’s numerous war crimes and warned that territorial concessions would only reward aggression.

“Stable peace cannot be built by rewarding the aggressor with territorial concessions,” the community said.

They also reiterated that a policy of appeasement is not peace.

Previously, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) firmly rejected the original version plan. The initial proposal reflected maximalist Kremlin demands and pressured Ukraine to cede territory and surrender its sovereignty.

As UWC President Paul Grod said, “Peace cannot be imposed at the expense of justice. Any credible plan must begin with the full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and robust security guarantees. Peace will never be achieved through captivity.”
