UWC welcomes European Parliament Resolution on Ukraine NATO membership – calls to support global campaign #UkraineInNATO

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the European Parliament’s (EP) Resolution calling on NATO members to invite Ukraine to join the Alliance and to begin the accession process at the upcoming NATO leaders summit in Vilnius, Lithuania July 10-11, 2023.

“We are grateful to the Members of the European Parliament and to the Ukrainian communities across NATO member states for their strong and consistent advocacy efforts to secure Ukraine’s rapid Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership and security guarantees.”

“With this Resolution, the EU’s legislative body delivered a very powerful message of support for Ukraine’s NATO membership and integration into the Euro-Atlantic family of nations. This is also a fundamental step of moral support for Ukrainians, who defend Europe’s safety, prosperity, and stability at the frontlines against a brutal and ruthless Russian terrorist state,” stated Paul Grod, UWC President.

The EP Resolution, adopted on June 15, 2023, with 425 votes in favor, calls on NATO allies to honor their commitment to Ukraine and invite Kyiv to join the defense alliance. Particularly, MEPs stress that they expect the “accession process to start after the war is over and be finalized as soon as possible.”

Until Ukraine’s full membership is realized, the EU and its member states, together with NATO allies and like-minded partners, must work closely with Ukraine to develop a temporary framework for security guarantees, the Resolution says. The EP emphasized that Ukraine’s integration into both NATO and the EU would enhance regional and global security and strengthen the ties between Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic community.

“The UWC and Ukrainian communities across NATO member states have for many years advocated for Ukraine’s accession into the Alliance.  Today the people of Ukraine and citizens of NATO countries are overwhelming in favour of Ukraine’s NATO membership.  NATO is the key to stop Russia’s campaign of genocide against the Ukrainian people. UWC will continue to work with the citizens and leadership of all NATO countries to ensure Ukraine achieves a commitment from NATO leaders in Vilnius for membership, commencement of the accession process, and immediate security guarantees.  We call on all Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine to join our campaign #UkraineInNATO,” Grod added.
