UWC welcomes UK’s decision to support Ukraine’s fast-track accession to NATO

The United Kingdom will support the accelerated process of Ukraine joining NATO, stated James Cleverly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom.

“I think the UK’s position would be very, very supportive if we moved on from the membership action plan recognising that the offer to both Sweden and Finland didn’t require that and Ukrainians have demonstrated their commitment to reform the military for requirement of Nato membership through their actions on the battlefield,” Cleverly explained.

All NATO members recognize this, the minister added. The usual process of joining NATO provides that the candidate countries receive evaluations and advice on how to achieve the Alliance’s criteria. The accession process would be much faster if Ukraine skipped this stage.

“We have seen Ukraine evolve, and evolve incredibly quickly. Jens Stoltenberg at the Nato informal foreign ministers (summit) said that actually, many of the requirements of membership action plan are actually being delivered,” Cleverly said.

The Ukrainian World Congress expresses gratitude to the United Kingdom for its steadfast support of Ukraine in the war with Russia and on Ukraine’s path to NATO.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to The Rt. Hon. James Cleverly MP, with whom I had the opportunity to discuss Ukraine’s NATO membership. His unwavering support and friendship towards Ukraine are truly invaluable,” Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian World Congress, said at a meeting in London during the Ukraine Recovery Conference.

Earlier, the Pentagon stated that “Ukraine would have its way of joining” the North Atlantic Alliance. The European Parliament also approved a resolution calling for NATO to accept Ukraine. The Ukrainian World Congress welcomes the decision by the legislative body of the European Union.
