The European Parliament has approved a resolution calling for NATO to accept Ukraine. Members of the EU legislature believe this should be done immediately after the end of the war. 425 deputies approved the decision, 38 voted against it, and another 42 abstained.
“Until full membership is achieved, the EU and its member states, together with NATO allies and like-minded partners, must work closely with Ukraine to develop a temporary framework for security guarantees,” the European Parliament states.
The EU Parliament emphasized that Ukraine’s integration into both NATO and the EU will strengthen regional and global security. In addition, the decision will reinforce ties between Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic community.
MEPs hope for a quick decision on Ukraine’s accession to NATO immediately after the end of hostilities.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that all NATO member states support Ukraine’s accession. At the same time, Kyiv should not expect to receive an invitation to the military-political union at the summit in July.
